The statement quoted the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Chairman of Steering Committee on Safe School Initiative (SSI), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala in a meeting with Principals and Guidance Counsellors of Federal Unity Colleges and states ministries of education of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe on Safe School Initiative enumerated that the number of students affected by the insurgency was 194,664.
The statement said 113, 635 are in Borno, 73,894 in Yobe and 7,135 in Adamawa, adding that three weeks ago, 267 schools have been affected including 73 in Adamawa, 171 in Borno and 56 in Yobe states.
Okonjo-Iweala stated that 115 schools were completely destroyed, 101 in Borno while 139 schools are partially touched.
Director General of NEMA, Muhammad Sani-Sidi stated that the Safe School Programme was aimed at ensuring school safety and continuation of education which comprised transfer of 800 students.
