The Corps Public Education Officer, Jonas Agwu said “ the peace ambassador number plates which come in green lettering with white background, is not only illegal but unauthorised as it negates the provisions of the National Road Traffic Regulation, 2004.”
He said the Corps is still upgrading its National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS) and data base on vehicle number plates and available records indicated that the peace ambassador number plates do not fall into any of the Corps’ specified categories for the production of number plates.
“FRSC formations across the country are directed to commence immediate clamp down on vehicles bearing the peace ambassador number plates. All commands are hereby directed to particularly look out for number plates inscribed as peace ambassador in its numerical series such as PEACE 1 in its varying colours. All vehicles sighted carrying such number plates should be impounded and booked appropriately for number plate violation.”
“Owners of vehicles bearing such numbers were advised to change to any private or fancy number plate of any state of their choice or face arrest and immediate prosecution. Also, vehicles with plastics plates will be impounded,” he said.
