The Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, His Eminence John Cardinal Onaiyekan has said that too much restriction of persons is responsible for the striving businesses of traffickers across the globe.
Cardinal Onaiyekan who made this known yesterday during the 2017 anti-human trafficking public lecture with theme “Trafficking in persons; human security implications for Nigeria” advised that visa processes needed to be made easier.
He explained that the world must wake up to the reality and open anachronistic borders to encourage free movements of persons and business.
According to him, that meant relaxing, liberalizing visa regulations so that people can line up for visa at embassies instead of being washed ashore after many years in the desert.
Calling for human and humane of handling the problem,
The guest lecturer and the United Kingdom Anti-Slavery Commissioner, Sir Kevin Hyland, said that his government was set to commit about 5million pounds to tackle the root causes of trafficking with plans of increasing it to 7-10million pounds in the future.
