A selected refugees team yesterday, beat staff of humanitarian organisations made up of National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRM), ECOWAS and United Nations High Commissioner on Refugees (UNHCR) 2-0 in a novelty match as part of activities to mark this year’s World Refugees Day.

The match which was played at the Aguiyi Ironsi Cantonment in Abuja saw the refugees scoring their goals in the second half of the one-sided encounter.

Speaking after the match, Ahmed Bashir of NCFRM said the match was packaged to give the refugees and IDPs a sense of belonging.

The World Refugees Day is observed on 20th June yearly in order to raise public awareness about refugees’ situations all over the world.
