The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) may arraign the former minister of interior Abba Moro on an 11-count charge today, Daily Trust gathered yesterday.
According to EFCC sources, except for unlikely changes, the former minister will be docked before Justice Anwuli Chikere of the Federal High Court, Abuja.
Daily Trust had reported that Moro may be facing charges bordering on obtaining by false pretense, procurement fraud and money laundering.
The former minister was detained by the EFCC on February 22 over alleged fraud in the March 5, 2014 recruitment exercise into the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIA).
The EFCC commenced interrogating the former minister over allegations of culpability in the botched recruitment exercise that caused the death of about 20 applicants.
It was gathered that Moro, Anastasia Daniel Nwobia, F. O Alayebami, Mahmood Ahmadu(At large) and Drexel Tech Nigeria Ltd allegedly defrauded 676, 675,000 applicants to the tune of N676,675,000 representing N1000 per applicant through e-payment for their online recruitment exercise into the Immigration Service.
The suspects are alleged to have contravened the Public Procurement Act, No. 65 of 2007 in the contract awards by not following the necessary procedure laid down by the government.
The award of the contract to Drexel Tech Nig Ltd was said to have had no prior advertisement, no needs assessment and a procurement plan and was not carried out before award of the contract.
According to sources, ‎the contract was awarded through selective tendering procedure by invitation of four firms without seeking approval of Bureau for Public Procurement contrary to sections 40, 42 and 43 of the Public Procurement Act, No. 65 of 2007 and punishable under section 58 of the same act.
