The FCT Police Command has arrested 35 suspects for various crimes including a receptionist who organised his own kidnap alongside his colleagues to extort his employer.

Police Commissioner, Bala Ciroma, said in his maiden press briefing on Monday after taking over the leadership of the command.

He said crime fighting requires the involvement of all stakeholders, hence, solicited for the support of FCT residents.

Ciroma said among the major arrests recorded in the month was the arrest of Henry Chinedu Ikoro, Joseph Raphael, both 29, and Friday Moses, 24 for kidnapping.

He said the trio conspired to kidnap Nnamdi Adimoha and Emeka Emmanuel both staff of Day Spa in Wuse, Abuja. “The victims were held hostage for five days before they were rescued from the Karimo apartment of one of the suspects, Joseph Raphael, where they were being kept.

“The principal suspect, Henry Chinedu Ikoro who happens to be a receptionist at Day Spa master-minded the operation with the intention of extorting some money from their employer. To allay any suspicion, the suspects arranged for the principal suspect to be arrested with the two victims. The suspects were demanding the sum of one hundred and fifty thousand dollar ($150,000) for the release of the victims.

“One dagger was recovered from the suspects as exhibits. Meanwhile, effort has been intensified to arrest three other fleeing suspects who are in possession of the firearm and car used for the operation,” he said.

Ikoro said he was motivated to commit the crime because he wanted to use the proceeds to further his education.

One of the victims, Nnamdi Adimoha said he was going home with Ikoro and another colleague after closing from work when two cars blocked their path at gun point, forcing them to enter one of the cars through which they were taken away.

He said before they were taken away, he had noticed Ikoro was making some suspicious calls but he didn’t think much about them.
