The final list of candidates for the National Assembly election released by the Independent National Electoral Commission on Tuesday showed that no fewer than 51 senators have lost in their bid to return as their names were not on the INEC list.
However, not all of the 51 participated in the primaries of their various political parties as some of them have secured governorship tickets thereby providing opportunities for others.
Of the 51 senators, 5 got governorship tickets in their respective states. They include Mohammed Jibrilla Bindo (APC, Adamawa),  Atiku Bagudu (APC, Kebbi), Professor Ben Ayade (PDP, Cross River), Aisha Jummai Alhassan (APC, Taraba), Gyang Pwajok (PDP, Plateau), Simeon Ajibola (PDP, Kwara) and Ifeanyi Okowa (PDP, Delta).
However, not all who sought to be governors were successful as no fewer than 20 of them lost out in the primaries, as reported by Daily Trust recently.
Among those who are not returning to the Senate for one reason or another include:  Nkechi Nwogu and Uche Chukwumerije (Abia), Bello Tukur and  Hassan Barata (Adamawa), Ita Enang, Helen Eseune and Aloysious Etok (Akwa Ibom),  Babayo Gamawa and Ibrahim Adamu Gumba (Bauchi), Clever Ikisipo and  Heineken Lokpobiri from Bayelsa State.
Others include the Senate leader Victor Ndoma-Egba from Cross River, Edesiri E. Aguariavwodo, (Delta), Christopher Nwankwo, Paulinus Nwagu, and Oguoji O. Sunny (Ebonyi),  Domingo Obende, Eheigie Uzamere and Odion Ugbesia from Edo State.
Others are Babafemi Ojudu (Ekiti), Ayogu Eze (Enugu), Saidu Alkali (Gombe), Chris Anyanwu, Hope Uzodinma and Matthew Nwagwu (Imo), Abdulazeez Usman (Jigawa), General Sani Saleh, Esther Nenadi Usman (Kaduna), Sadiq Yaradua, Hadi Sirika (Katsina),  General Mohammed Magoro and  Isa Galaudu from Kebbi State.
Also on the list are Ganiyu Solomon (Lagos), Solomon Ewuga (Nasarawa), Shem Nuhu, Ibrahim Musa (Niger), Odunsi Babalola Kamar (Ogun), Boluwaji Kunlere (Ondo), Husain Mudashiru (Osun), Victor Lar (Plateau), Wilson Ake (Rivers) and  Umaru Dahiru (Sokoto).
Daily Trust had exclusively reported last year that about 75 senators may not make it back in the next assembly based on the record of attrition rate in the National Assembly from 1999 to 2011.
