According to the Sultan during a short broadcast on Thursday, the directive is sequel to the non-sighting of the new moon of Ramadan on Thursday, across Nigeria.
“However, after all the necessary consultations with Emirs and Islamic leaders across the country, it was established that the new moon of Ramadan was not sighted anywhere in Nigeria today (Thursday).
“Therefore, the month of Shaában will complete its 30-day circle tomorrow, Friday, Aug. 21, 2009,’’ the monarch added.
According to the Sultan, “consequent upon this, Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009 becomes the first day of Ramadan 1430 AH”.
