Idudu, who made the observation at a recent luncheon organised in his honour by ESVARBON in Lagos, said quackery was an indication of hardship and the need to survive at all cost.
“Quackery is not limited to the profession of estate surveying and valuation, it is present in even the oldest professions such as law and medicine; there are fake lawyers and doctors everywhere. It is a universal problem and a function of the situation of the economy here. Once people have the wherewithal, they move in and present themselves as what they are not,” he said.
The foremost valuer said the best way to fight the menace of quackery was to increase the membership of a profession.
“I found fulfilment as the President of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers in 1992 with the enlargement of our membership, which is the best way to tackle quackery. Once you have the members, the quacks will be on their way out,” he said.
Idudu said the board and institution were doing their utmost to curb the activities of quacks in the profession.
Speaking on his service as the chairman of ESVARBON, Idudu said he was able to tackle the situation where members of a profession split into units.
