Mr Benjamin Abolade, the Proprietor of Solid Foundation Nursery & Primary School, Ilorin, Kwara has restated the need for the establishment of more technical schools in Nigeria.

Abolade, who urged State and Federal Governments to take up the challenge, said more technical schools would lead to production of more technically oriented graduates and help in reducing unemployment rate in the country.

He made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Ilorin.

Abolade also said technical schools would allow graduates to be self employed instead of roaming the streets, seeking for white-collar jobs.

”It is time for government to invest more in technical schools through proper funding and monitoring. Get them equipment needed to train students.

” Technical schools will expose students to new things, art work, craft, weaving, painting, tailoring, plumbing and make them self dependent after school.

” A standard technical school will breed creativity, discover talents and also reduce the rate of youths unemployment in our society.

” There are lots of technical colleges in Europe and that is why they complain less of unemployment. It is not everybody that can study medicine, engineering or biology in school.

” It is time we emulate the Western world, where they prioritise technical schools in their educational system. Everybody cannot become a Medical Doctor or Pharmacist,” he said.

The proprietor, however, called on the government at all levels to prioritise and invest in technical schools to make life better for Nigerian youths.(NAN)
