Prophet Mohammed allowed non-Muslims worship in his mosque -Tambuwal
From Abdul-Hameed Oyegbade, Osogbo
Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State has urged
Nigerians to be tolerant of one another for the benefit of all,
as Prophet Mohammed used to allow non-Muslims to
carry out their religious activities in his mosque during his
lifetime.
The governor who delivered the convocation lecture of Fountain
University, Osogbo on the topic, Religious Tolerance and Challenges
of Democratic Governance in Nigeria, said Nigerians must understand
and respect one another irrespective of ethnic and religious
differences.
He specifically appealed to Muslims to seek sufficient knowledge about
Islam and understand the religion properly. “Our prophet Muhammad accommodated the Jews and non-Muslims to conduct
their own services even in his mosque. So, we should continue to
engage and respect one another,” Tambuwal said.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar who also attended
the convocation lecture officially inaugurated the new Senate
Building donated to the University by Alhaji Sakariyahu Babalola. He also
laid the foundation of the university central mosque donated by Alhaji
AWA Ibraheem.
