The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) has commiserated with the Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai over the death of his Commissioner for Education Science and Technology, Professor Andrew Jonathan Nok who died on Tuesday at the age of 55 after a protracted illness.

A letter of condolence signed by the forum’s Director General, Salihu Mohammed Lukman and copy made available to DailyTrust described the late Professor as an hardworking person who worked towards re-positioning the education sector in the state. He was also described as an intelligent fellow who distinguished himself in science through his work in Biochemistry by discovering the gene responsible for sleeping sickness; for which he won the NLNG Science prize in 2009.

“His laudable achievement as the first African to win the Alexander von Humboldt prize for science in 2013 for finding the cure for Trypanosomiasis is quite remarkable. It is in the wake of the giant strides your administration is making in the education sector that makes his passing away most painful,” he said while he prayed that God grants the state and the family the fortitude to bear the weighty loss.

Also, the Kaduna state chapter of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) condoled the state government, the people of Kaduna state and the deceased’s family over the great loss. A statement by the council’s secretary, Dauda Doka described his death as a great loss not only to the family and the people of the state but also to members of the press.

“NUJ acknowledge his integrity and commitments towards the development of Kaduna state and the country at large,” he added.
