The Nigerian Institution of Environmental Engineers and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria have emphasized the need for full implementation of the Presidential executive order 5, to be backed up with enforcement, for improvement of local engineering contents in all projects, programs, works, construction, infrastructure development, goods and services across the country.

They also agreed on the need to institutionalise the methodology of fighting quackery in engineering to a standstill.

The professional bodies spoke when the National Chairman, NIEE, Engr. Olalekan Ajani, led some members of the executives of the body on a courtesy visit to the President, COREN, Engr. Ali Rabiu, recently.

During the visit, COREN President and 20 other engineers were decorated with the fellowship of the institute as noticeable environmental engineers that had contributed immensely to the conducive environment for sustainable development in Nigeria.

The two bodies said there was a need to recognise environmental engineering as a distinct body of engineering in all higher institutions across the country, with its own scheme of service in the civil service at the federal, state and local governments levels, and to have its own COREN seal.

Other deliberations during the visit were the need to create a conducive environment and collaboration with NSE, for the formation of 3rd force and pressure group to fight for improved condition and more rewarding services for engineers and to collaborate with NSE for the development of all divisions of engineering continuous mandatory professional development program for capacity building.
