Professor Oyewale Tomori has been inducted into the United States National Academy of Medicine. The induction ceremony was held in Washington DC on October 14.

Reading Tomori’s tribute, the orator said “Dr Oyewale Tomori led the development of the Africa Regional Polio Laboratory Network, a vital part of the global polio eradication program. His work established a paradigm for the development of similar laboratory networks for measles, yellow fever, influenza and other viral hemorrhagic fevers, including Ebola virus, in Africa.”

The professor of Virology was was born in Ilesa, Osun State, Nigeria on 3 February 1946. He received a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria as well as a Doctorate degree, Ph.D in virology from the University of Ibadan, where he was appointed professor of virology in 1981, the same year he received the United State of America Department of Health and Human Services Public Health Service Certificate for contributions to Lassa Fever Research
