Kano state Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has called on the Federal Government to urgently investigate the recent unrest in Port Harcourt, Rivers state with a view to bringing the perpetrators to justice.

Governor Ganduje made the call yesterday when he received leaders of Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) at Government House on courtesy visit.

Ganduje said although the situation was brought under control by security agents, government needed to investigate the matter, identify the culprits and punish them to act as deterrence.

The governor commended leaders of the CNG for their tireless efforts to douse the tension that had already been generated.

‘‘I am not surprised at these efforts because your activities have demonstrated you as true believers in one Nigeria and you also believe in President Muhammadu Buhari’s ability to stabilise the nation,” he said.

Earlier, leader of the Group, Nastura Ashir Shariff, told the governor that their visit to Kano was to sensitise northerners to desist from taking any revenge following the Port Harcourt incident.

“We are appealing to northern people to remain calm and restrain from any reprisal attack on their brothers and sisters from the southeast,” he said.
