Proprietors of tertiary institutions in the country have been called upon to make education their top most priority in the budgetary provisions for 2017 fiscal year so that the desired development of the nation could be achieved.
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, Dr. Mohammed Kudu Santuraki made the call while speaking at a send-off dinner in honour of the former Governing Council members and the Vice-Chancellor in Minna.
He lamented that despite the huge human and natural resources in the country, most Nigerian universities could not be ranked among the best 100 in the world; a situation he described as very unfortunate.
He urged the Niger State government to as a matter of urgency accord the necessary attention to the development of education by making the sector the priority area in the 2017 fiscal year budget in order to meet the challenging socio-economic global trends.
