Our correspondent who visited the airport yesterday reports that the arrival and departure halls which were packed full with passengers were stuffy, with some of the passengers fanning themselves with newspapers.
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of Benin Electricity Company, Cutis Nwiadei, confirmed that power supply to the airport was cut over unpaid N4.3 million. But a staff of the airport who sought anonymity told journalists that power supply to the airport was cut over a week ago by the electricity distribution company, despite the fact that about N2 million is allegedly being remitted to the company monthly.
“The management pays between N1.8million and N2 million every month, yet they disconnected us last week. We have been running on generators and they are not powerful enough to carry the air conditioners,” he said.
Efforts to reach the airport manager, Mr. Sunday Ayodele, failed as he refused to answer calls put through to him.
