The Managing Director/CEO of Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA), Prof. Adesoji Adesugba, has said that lack of proper infrastructure to extract mineral resources is hampering the optimal performance in the mining sector.

Prof. Adesuga who was speaking at the special day of the mining cadastral at the sidelines of the 16th Abuja International Trade Fair identified poor infrastructure for extraction, processing and transportation as the major impediment to generate adequate revenue from the sector as work is done through artisanal methods.

He maintained that these have left the output extracted to be very low in relation to the amount of deposit in the country.

He stated that since mining is essential to development and growth of every nation, the sector should be given adequate attention.

Speaking, the Director General of Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Victoria Akai, urged the DG to consider making the trade fair an annual event to be a “must participate” and “must attend” for the agency due to the presence of the mining licensing office.
