Abah said this during the launching of the book ‘The Challenges of Transforming the Civil Service’ written in honour of the outgoing head of civil service of the federation, Bukar Goni Aji by the BPSR.
The book evaluates what has worked well in the Nigeria civil service, what has not worked and what areas needs improvement.
The “book represents the most comprehensive and recent account of the state of civil service presently, latest efforts aimed at reforming it, why and what needs to be done in the future,” Abah said in his opening remarks.
He said the job of the Bureau of Public Services Reforms (BPSR) which established by federal government in 2004 to reform the public service, was not limited to only the core civil service (ministries) but every organization that draws fund from the federal budget.
“The approach taken by Alhaji Bukar Goni Aji to transform the service represents an example of commendable practice in the technical area known as ‘corporate planning,” which focuses on ensuring that organisations are fit for purpose, Abah said.
President Goodluck Jonathan last Wednesday appointed Mr Danladi Kifasi to succeed Goni Aji as the head of service of the federation whose tenure expires next Monday after serving for 35 years.
