Political appointees in Cross River State are the least paid, compared with their counterparts in other states, the commissioner for information in the state, Rosemary Archibong, has said.
She said that political appointees in the state had agreed to be paid lower, after Governor Ben Ayade decided to appoint many special advisers, personal assistants and board chairmen and secretaries.
Speaking at the NUJ Press Centre, Calabar, yesterday, on the outcome of the 2017 budget presentation by the governor, Archibong said that the appointees accepted massive cut in their salary to accommodate the army of new appointees.
She said that the governor deliberately increased number of the appointees to expand his government and accommodate unemployed youths.
“We, the older appointees, including the governor himself, have accepted massive pay cut in order for our newly appointed brothers and sisters to be accommodated,” she said.
