Eye witnesses told Weekly Trust that trouble started when the police inspector, who was trying to get hold of a motorcycle rider popularly called Okada, shot sporadically and a spray bullet hitting an electronics seller by the road side.
Some residents of the area who were angered by the killing of the trader took to the street burning and shooting the policemen before attacking the police station.
Weekly Trust also gathered that hundreds of policemen, who were immediately drafted to the area to maintain law and order fired several shots and tear gas as they approach the scene, forcing many residents to run for safety.
When contacted the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Ben Ugwuegbulam confirmed the incident saying, “we are trying to get details and will sent it to you soon.”
