Police escorts on Friday shot and deflated the tyre of a pickup van for alleged obstruction at Abaji town, on Abuja – Lokoja road.
A witness said the incident happened at 8am when the escorts who were traveling in two Hilux vans, suddenly overtook the pick-up van and forced the driver to park.
He said the driver took to his heels immediately he parked and one of the police escorts shot and deflated the front tyre of the van.
Our reporter, who arrived at the scene shortly after the incident, saw men of the FRSC struggling to remove the van from the highway to avoid obstruction, while the mobile police men entered their vehicles and sped off.
The pick-up driver later resurfaced and fixed a spare tyre and continued his journey, even as he denied obstructing the vehicles of the police escorts.
“I never obstructed their vehicles. When they were blaring their siren, I saw them in the mirror and decided to maintain my lane, but they wanted me to leave the entire road for them’,’he said.
