Civil servants in Plateau State have embarked on a five-day warning strike commencing 12 midnight Sunday, following government’s inability to meet their demands of nonpayment of three months’ salaries and non-release of third party deductions among others.

The workers disclosed this on Monday to journalists at the conference hall of Labour House in Jos, the state capital, by the Chairman of Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC), Comrade Titus L. Malau.

The action came a day after the Head of Civil Service in the state, Engineer Sunday Chong assured the workers of government readiness to pay them their outstanding salaries.

The union said the action became necessary due to the government’s failure to fulfil the agreement reached between the two parties.

The joint council also faulted the White Paper Report of the high-powered Staff Audit Committee headed by Nde John Gobak, for failing to upgrade staff who were due for promotions, placing it as one of their demands.

They equally disagreed with disciplinary measures meted out to the victims of the audit report without a corresponding discipline on the authorities that falsely promoted the victims.
