Barely two days after the media revelation about strong indications that some top leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have been discussing plans to break away and form a new political party, acting chairman of the party in Plateau State, Raymond Dabo, confirmed ‘rumours’ that certain stakeholders are strategizing for a new party.
Dabo told Daily Trust on phone that he was informed by certain stakeholders of his party about the development, although he insisted it would not bother him because, the plan was still an unsubstantiated “rumours.”
“What you, Daily Trust, have heard is exactly what I am hearing. From the rumour I heard, nobody is mentioning names. They just say some people will soon leave,” he said.
Dabo, whose seat will soon be up for grabs at a yet to be scheduled congress, said he was informed by loyal stakeholders that they have been contacted for the break away, but have decided to remain in the PDP because of his leadership.
“In fact, this afternoon (Friday), some people met me in the office and said if not for my leadership of the party in the state, they were going to leave. They said if I had no intention of coming back, and the party doesn’t pick the right guy, they will leave. We didn’t speak much on this; no names were mentioned,” he added.
“But what I will ask is; for how long will people continue to prostitute around political parties? For me, everybody can leave to wherever, I am a committed PDP man, and I will remain in the PDP,” he stressed.
