The Nigeria Solidarity Support Fund (NSSF) has kick-started a special COVID-19 photography contest, tagged ‘WENAIJA Photography Contest’ aimed at empowering about 10,000 Nigerian youths.

The contest tagged, “Visions of Nigeria”, according to a board member of NSSF, Mr Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, was to mitigate the adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on Nigerians and to open a vista to Nigerian youths.

Speaking during a webinar, Aig-Imoukhuede said the initiative seeks to tell, through photography, Nigerian stories, by Nigerians, showcasing how Nigerians have been adapting to and overcoming the economic, health, and social challenges triggered by COVID-19 pandemic.

Chairman of the Fund, Babatunde Folawiyo, said, “For young people, the COVID-19 has impacted, and is in fact still impacting, education, employment, mental health and disposable income. 

“We believe that we must involve the youths in building societal resilience as a first step to help build back better for all generations. The WeNaija Photography Campaign is our inaugural initiative in this space.”

Also speaking, the General Manager of NSSF, Dr Fejiro Chinye-Nwoko, said “Our target is 10,000 entries of amazing images from across Nigeria.

“Prizes up for grabs in this inaugural competition include cash prize of up to N6 million, paid internships in some of the most prestigious corporate organizations, personalized mentorship session as well as a percentage from the proceeds of the auction sales of the best photo entries.”

The competition is open to all youths with a mobile phone or digital camera to capture memories or images that suit the theme of the competition, she added.
