The NGO also lauded the governor of Oyo state, Mr Abiola Ajimobi, for employing 66 Persons With Disability (PWD).
Mr. Augustine Onwuamegbu, President PWD, made the commendation in Abuja.
He said that the belief that persons with disability cannot contribute meaningfully to the development of the country would be eroded when they are given the opportunity to showcase their talents.
Onwuamegbu however called on the FG to emulate the Oyo state governor, adding that if the state could employ 66 persons with disability, the federal government can afford to employ 600,000.
He advocated for special SURE-P for persons with disability, adding that since the inception of the SURE-P, people with disability have not benefited.
“There should be SURE-P for persons with disability and 50 percent of whatever goes to SURE-P should be for persons with disability,” he said.
He also called on the federal government to establish a special ministry for PWD, adding that such ministry would take care of their needs.
“We have been advocating for a special ministry for persons with disability to take care of their special needs and to streamline issue bothering on education, welfare, employment and housing for persons with disability,” he said.
