The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday approved Port Harcourt as venue for the party’s convention slated for October 5 and 6 to elect the party’s presidential candidate for the 2019 election.
Governor Nyesom Wike and the National Working Committee (NWC) had insisted on Port Harcourt while the Board of Trustees (BoT) had said it must be held in Abuja.
Addressing newsmen at the end of the NEC meeting in Abuja, the National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said close to 4,000 delegates were expected at the convention.
The party, however, expressed fears over the ability of INEC under Prof. Mahmood Yakubu as Chairman and Mrs. Amina Zakari as Director of Operations to conduct free-and-fair elections.
