Parents questioned the rationale behind allowing over 2,000 candidates to purchase forms when the school management was aware of its limited slots.
“They used the exercise just to make money, otherwise how can you justify allowing over 2,000 candidates to purchase your form since you know that you would not admit up to ten per cent of them. This is why I always tell myself that corruption is everywhere. It is not only in Aso Rock that you can find corruption,” Malam Sani Jume said.
Another father, Mr. Muyiwa Ajani, said he spent about N7,000 in purchasing the form, including cafe charges.
“This is apart from hotel accommodation, because we came from Kogi with my daughter to sit for the examination. Now, if you multiply N6,000 by 2,000, it means about N12 million. I think the appropriate authorities should make them refund our money. For me, this is similar to the Immigration employment scam,” Mr. Ajani said.
But Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee of the hospital, who is in charge of the Nursing School, Professor Abdullahi Mohammed, said admission into the school is strictly on merit.
“Nursing is a very sensitive profession, because nurses are the ones that implement doctors’ prescriptions. Parents of today are very selfish. They want their wards admitted at all cost, and students of nowadays are very lazy; they don’t read. Can you imagine a student coming to exam from the venue of a wedding ceremony? You need to see some of the scripts. One would be forced to think that some of these students did not even attend primary school,” he said.
He added: “So, if parents know that their children are academically poor, they shouldn’t buy our forms.”
