The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has described the conduct of parallel congresses in some states as an exercise in futility and an attempt to cause confusion in the party.
The APC National Publicity Secretary, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, who reacted to the issue yesterday after inquiries by the media, restated the party’s position that any member who had any genuine grievances regarding the congresses should channel same through the appeals committee in their respective states.
“The party’s position is that there is no such thing as parallel congress. The only congress recognised by the party is the one conducted in accordance with the party constitution, which was organised by the congress committee charged by the party to organise such congress,” the APC spokesman said.
Recalled that there have been reports of parallel congresses held in Zamfara, Kano, and Delta states among others during the ongoing elective congresses of the party.
