Romanus told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt that the two students of Model Girls Secondary School (MGSS), Rumueme, were brought to the medical centre in an unconscious state.
He said that the medical authority was told that there was a pandemonium at the MGSS located opposite the health centre.
Romanus said that the health centre’s first duty was to resuscitate them after which it ascertain what happened to them.
According to him, “we quickly moved into action to resuscitate them.
“As I’m speaking with you, they are occupying two bed spaces, lying down and being attended to.”
NAN reports that public primary and secondary schools in Port Harcourt were forced to closed down at about 10.30 a.m. on Tuesday due to panic caused by rumoured killer vaccination in schools.
It was rumoured that some Nigerian Army personnel, dressed in Military Camouflage uniforms, were going round schools in Rivers State, with the intention to forcefully vaccinate students with an unknown substance.
In a reaction, a statement by the Headquarters, 6 Division Nigerian Army, signed by Col. Aminu Iliyasu, Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, described the rumour as ”callous and unpatriotic”.
”The callous and unpatriotic rumours spread by these enemies of state are, to say the least, despicable, deplorable and highly condemnable by all well-meaning Nigerians as they are intended to cause pandemonium among the general public.
”For the purpose of emphasis, the Nigerian Army does not and will never carry out its medical outreaches or vaccination exercises for that matter in schools.
”We can, therefore, categorically inform the public that the ongoing rumours about Nigerian Army personnel going round schools in military camouflage to forcefully immunize school children are not true and should therefore be discountenanced with.”
Iliyasu requested the members of the public to call 09072509436-8 to report any case of any impostor(s) that might be seen actually trying to commit such atrocities.
He, however, said that the Nigerian Army planned to undertake free medical outreaches, sanitation exercises and distribution of educational materials in host communities.
He said that the gesture was part of its community relations activities during the ongoing Operation CROCODILE SMILE II.
He added that the activities would be conducted with the consent of relevant authorities of designated communities.
He said that the venues and dates would be duly communicated to the general public at the appropriate time through the relevant channels of communication. (NAN)
