Maitama Sule made the appeal in Abuja after the inauguration of the board of trustees of the foundation and launch of the foundation programmes tagged: “Nigerian experience at 50.”

According to Maitama Sule, historic anniversaries like the independence celebration should provide Nigerians opportunities for stock taking.

“The period calls for reflection, time to look into the past, adjust for the present and plan for the future,” he said.

He also appealed to the members to use the  fortunes of the foundation and re-orient Nigerians on the need to accommodate one another irrespective of religious and cultural differences.

The foundation’s board of trustees has Chief Rashees Gbadamosi, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, Amb. Olusegun Olusola, Maryam Dada Ibrahim, Frank Okonta, Malam Ismail Shuai’abu among other distinguished Nigerians.

Speaking after the launch, the founder of the initiative, Alhaji Munzali Dantata, said the foundation was borne out of his desire to contribute to the promotion of peace and unity through arts and tourism.

He said the foundation hopes to use the golden jubilee anniversary, which he described as historic for many African countries that got independence in 1960 to repackage their respective countries for the challenges ahead.

He said some of the foundation programmes included Youth Camp programme schedule for August and African Entrepreneurship lecture in September.
