Ajimuda, while speaking at Igbokoda, Headquarters of Ilaje Local Government, said the morality and mind-set of people in the oil region had been seriously affected by the cheap money that came to them through the oil, stressing that there was the need for the people to channel their energy towards purposeful engagements for development.

The OSOPADEC boss, who was addressing the first youth and women summit, said “our strength as youth in the quality of imagination, vigour of emotions, will-power and courage, so  let us begin to dream and cultivate the values of cooperation, unity, simplicity and tolerance.”

He stated that the theme of the occasion ‘Youths: Agent of Change and Development’ was most appropriate because of the wind of positive change that started with the offer and acceptance of the federal government amnesty.

Ajimuda was of the view that the situation should enhance rapid transformation at all levels to yield positive development, particularly in the oil community of the state which he said had been identified as the most peaceful part of the entire oil producing arrears in the country.

He disclosed that the board was planning to convene an all embracing stakeholders’ meeting early this year to set an agenda for the broad development of the oil producing areas.

This, according to him, was to ensure extension of electricity supply, reclamation of land/dredging of canals, development of potable water schemes, construction of township roads and establishment of a unity village.

He noted that since the inception  of the commission in 2001, OSOPADEC has for the first time, got two women appointed on its board, which was a reflection of the high regard Mimiko’s government had for women folk.

Ajimuda pledged that the board would promote women empowerment, while commending Mrs Olukemi Mimiko for her commitment to the development of women and children in the state. At the occasion, a lecture title ‘Youths as Agents of Change and Development,’ was delivered by Mr Monday Ehinmore of the Department of a History and International Studies of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko
