The chance of the candidate of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) in the coming November 26 governorship election in Ondo State, Chief Olusola Oke, got a boost yesterday as the Muslim community pledged to vote  for him.
Making the stand of the Muslim community known in Akure, the Chief Imam of Akure, Alhaji Abdulazeez Yayi-Akorede, said the decision of the AD to pick a Muslim, Alhaji Ganny Dauda, as its deputy governorship candidate made the Muslim community to take that position and support the party to succeed at the polls.
The chief imam, who spoke at the Akure Central Mosque, when some Muslim leaders hosted Chief Oke, lauded the AD and its governorship candidate for recognising Muslims.
He said the Muslim community in the state would not work with political parties that didn’t recognise them.
He promised to reach out to other Muslim groups and organisations on the need to vote for the AD in the November 26 election.
A former national president of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Alhaji Sirajudeen Abdulazeez, advised Oke to address all injustices meted to Muslims in the state.
Abdulazeez said the various political imbalances must be corrected by the AD government to enjoy the support of Muslims.
Oke, who said Dauda’s emergence as running mate was divine, stressed the need for balance between the two major religions.
The AD candidate, while appreciating the role of Muslims and the efficacy of their prayers in ensuring good moral upbringing, peace and development, assured that his government would always accord them their due regard and recognition.
