Respite may soon be on the way of traders at the popular Gbonagun market, Obantoko in Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State, as the turning of the sod for the construction of 40 lock-up shops was done at the weekend by the chairman of the council, Alhaji Semiu Lawal.

According to Lawal the construction would be completed in another one month or two.

He said that the project was in line with his electioneering campaign promise to the traders at the market, adding that more expansion would be carried out in the market soon to accommodate more traders.

“The project is part of our promise to the traders of the market, who are trading under both rain and sun daily to meet the needs of Obantoko people and its environ. We are going to start with 40 shops for now and go for expansion later,” he said.

In a related development, the council boss has assured that the perennial sand digging around some communities in Obantoko would be addressed in order to prevent destructive flooding as the rains enter crucial period.

Lawal who spoke with our correspondent on the heels of recalcitrant posture of some residents found digging sand on drainage channels, said the council would take crucial step to check the menace.
