The Obong of Calabar, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V has assured that more sponsors will be involved in the sponsorship of the Golf Charity Tournament named after him.
The Obong further assured that he will put all necessary resources in place to promote the game of golf in Cross River State, particularly, the Obong of Calabar Golf Charity Tournament which is an annual event in celebration of his birthday.
The monarch gave the assurance when he teed-off the 2020 edition of the Golf Charity Tournament at the Calabar Golf Club.
“With more sponsors showing interest, the 3rd edition and subsequent editions will be bigger and better. I believe that there will be more participation from international golfers across the world.”
Also speaking, the Captain of the Calabar Golf Club, AVM Eko E. Osim (Rtd.) expressed gratitude to the monarch for keeping to his promise to make the Obong of Calabar Golf Tournament a yearly event.
He also commended the monarch for introducing a charity component to this year’s edition, where proceeds would be donated to orphanages and visually impaired persons.
AVM Osim said with the growing popularity of golf in Cross River State, the ripple effect it will have on the people, especially the youth, in the years to come will be unimaginable.
Chairman, Etuboms Traditional Council, Palace of the Obong of Calabar, His Royal Highness, Etubom Bassey O. Bassey-Duke, represented the Obong at the presentation of prizes to winners of the Tournament.
The two-day competition saw Brenda Joseph Etim winning the Ladies’ Category just as Eja Don clinched victory in the men’s category.
