Speaking as the first set of teachers from Enugu began training in the first series, NTI Director-General Dr Aminu Ladan Sharehu insisted the strengthening Mathematics and Science Education (SMASE) training was aimed at meeting challenges in methods and approach used by maths and science teachers.
He said trainees’ progress and assimilation would be monitored through at least three sets of assessors.
“We just don’t do our training, we do a follow-up to find out what has happened to those people we have trained,” he said.
He noted each of the country’s six geopolitical zones is assigned a consultant professor, quality assurance experts “who go round to see what the trained teachers are actually doing”, as well as independent monitors.
