In a communiqué issued at the end of the joint executive/senate council of the National Association of Northern Nigerian Students (NANNA), held in Abuja recently, the students’ body called on Jonathan to rather “jettison the agitations of self serving Nigerians who are mounting pressure on him to dump the well articulated zoning arrangement which has favoured his kinsmen for eight years.
The association maintained that if Jonathan should listen to the voice of wisdom and not contest, he would be paying the price for national unity, peace and progress of Nigeria.
“That we students of northern Nigeria wish to call on the leadership of all serious minded and registered political parties across the country to present only candidates of northern extraction for the 2011 presidential election in the interest of peace and stability of one Nigeria.
“When this is done, it will go a long way to show how politically mature we have grown as a nation before the international community and other neighbouring countries who see us as giant of Africa,” the communique signed by Comrade Philip Agbese, Comrade Mohammed Kudu and Comrade Ibrahim Alih, added.
