The Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO), Asia, has elected a seven-man executive that would pilot the affairs of the organisation.
The inauguration took place yesterday in Abuja and the Tokyo, Japan based headquarters of the organisation would see the executives serving for two years.
The new executives comprises of Prof. Emenike C. Ejiogwu as President, Dr. Fatima Osary Joshua, Vice President; Engr. Ochade Osekwe, PRO; Engr. Henry Awoms, General Secretary; Prince A. Olawale, Financial Secretary; Mr. Michael Umar, Treasurer and Mr Princewill Project Officer.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, represented by the Head Crisis Monitoring and Public Communications, Mr. Tiwatopr Adeleye Elias-Fatile, urged Nigerians in diaspora to be good ambassadors of the country.
“Hundreds of Nigerians are making Nigeria proud, but there are few bad eggs that give the country bad name and these are the ones that are being mentioned. Even for those that have citizens of other countries are Nigerians first before they were granted the citizenship of other counties. They should not let the country down being their roots,” he said.
The NIDO Asia Patron, Chief Sam Onyeishi, pledged that Nigerians in diaspora would continue to be good ambassadors of the country.
He listed some of the achievements of NIDO Asia as instituting a $20m Manganese mining project in Zamfara State and which was stopped following after the Lead poisoning incident; the long lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) project leading to the establishment of a N50m factory and the other collaborations with Nigerian government and private organisations in solar, health and other areas among others.
