NAS will be hosting the executive council meeting of the body in Abuja from March 12 to 13 and intends to persuade member countries to support Nigeria’s bid based on the country’s achievements in promoting science in Africa.
Speaking yesterday at a meeting hosted by the Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa in Abuja, Professor Oyewale Tomori, president of NAS, said apart from building collaborations among the Nigerian science community, the summit would provide opportunity for articulating a common voice on the state of science and provide realistic as well as acceptable solutions for improvement of the status and practice of science in the country.
He said the country stands to benefit much if the regional office is sited in Nigeria, adding that the voice of Nigerian scientists would be better heard internationally.
