Nigerian musicians bag nominations for int’l awards

They joined other African artists who were named as finalists of the 2020 edition of the US-based competition.

Some Nigerian artists have been nominated for the International Songwriting Competition (ISC) People’s Voice awards.

They joined other African artists who were named as finalists of the 2020 edition of the US-based competition.

The awards are part of the annual contest, provides aspiring and established songwriters with the opportunity to get their songs heard by influential decision makers in the music industry.

Nigerians Zubi & Anatu were nominated in the World Music category alongside Baaba Maal (Senegal), Dibdiamond (Mauritania), Cecile Kayirebwa (Rwanda), and Richie Lumambo (Tanzania).

Nigerian hip hop duo T2 Tizzle and Zimbabwean rapper McKurry have been nominated in the R&B/Hip Hop category. DAP The Contract from Nigeria got a nod in the Music Video category, while Aurelina from Ghana was named in the Lyrics Only category. South African singer Connell Cruise was nominated in the Performance category.

Other nominees are Tarrah (Nigeria), Pedro Barbosa (South Africa) and Bahjat Etorjman (Libya), who were nominated in the Fork/Singer-Songwriter, Latin Music and Pop Top 40 categories, respectively.

The public has until 7 April to vote for their favourite acts.

“You may only vote once per day per unique email address,” the ISC said. “The song with the most public votes will be the People’s Voice winner, which is in addition to and separate from the regular winners selected by ISC’s judge panel.”

The winners will be announced in April or May.
