The two principal actors in a sex scandal that rocked the Niger state-owned Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University Lapai recently are to face suspension from the institution’s management.
The sexual scandal involving one Malam Ishaq Yusuf, a teacher in the Department of English Language and Communication Studies and a 400 level student of the department, Chidimma Mercy Samuel, had gone viral on social media on February 21.
The management had set up a panel headed by Professor Samual Kolo Tswanya, a deputy vice chancellor to investigate the incident. The panel which said 20 people, including the principal actors were interrogated during its sittings, recommended the suspension of both lecturer and the student in the scandal.
The panel which submitted its report to the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Mohammed Nasir Maiturare at the weekend, also recommended the referral of the principal actors in the scandal to various disciplinary committees of the institution.
In his remark, the Vice Chancellor Professor Maiturare said the recommendations would be studied and implemented, as it was imperative for the university to remain focused in its determination to produce high quality graduates worthy in both character and learning.
