Failure of the Anti Corruption Network (ACN) to provide the required document on its petition against the chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) Danladi Umar over corruption allegations has again stalled the investigative hearing in the House of Representatives yesterday.
The resumed public hearing over the matter yesterday followed the inability of the petitioner to appear at the public petition’s first sitting on the case last week, despite the presence of the accused party.
However, when the representative of the anti-corruption network, Lekan Salami appeared before the committee yesterday, he requested for an extension of one week to prepare the document they were asked to provide by the committee’s clerk.
Chairman of the committee, Rep Uzoma Nkem-Abonta (PDP, Abia) said it was not the culture of the committee to allow a case lingers on over excuses from one party, and therefore sought the CCT chairman’s response over his accuser’s further request.
Danladi, who spent more than two hours waiting before the lawmakers arrived for the sitting, then took time to consult with his team and asked the committee to jettison the case over what he said the petitioner’s not serious about the case.
“We have respect for this institution. We have tight schedules in office and we have many cases in office. It appears that they are not serious about the case.
“Last week we came here, and today, we have been here since 11:30. I implore the House to consider this petition abandoned,” he said.
