A bride, her three-year-old stepson and five others were killed in an autocrash along Gashua – Yunusari road in Yobe state.
Daily Trust gathered that the incident, which involved three vehicles; a Volkswagen Gulf, an articulated truck and ‘Zul’ sahara truck happened around 11:30am.
Police Public Relations Officer, Yobe state command, DSP Zubairu Jafiya confirmed that 7 people died on the spot and fourteen others sustained various degrees of injury.
"One of the seven people that died in the fatal accident was a newly wed bride travelling with her stepson to greet her parents. Fourteen people sustained various injuries," he said.
"The Volkswagen Gulf driver, who was over speeding lost control while trying to overtake the Trailer and rammed into ‘Zul’ truck.
"Seven people died on the spot. We rescued fourteen people alive and conveyed them to Hospital in Gashua," said an eyewitness, Muhammad Hausari.
A nurse at Gashua General Hospital, Yahya Sa’idu, said the 14 people who sustained various degrees of injury are currently receiving treatment.
"We have treated eight people while the remaining four that were critically injured have been referred to Federal Medical Centre Nguru," he said.
Chief Public Relations Officer of Bade local government area, Ibrahim Babagana, said the seven dead bodies have been buried, after funeral prayers that took place at the Emir’s Palace, Gashua.
