NDPHC begins nationwide project monitoring

The leadership of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company led by the Managing Director, Mr. Chiedu Ugbo, has commenced a nationwide tour to all projects with the specific objective of interfacing with governors who, by statute, are board members of the company.

The first leg of a two-day tour recently was to Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State where they briefed the governor on efforts being made to bridge power gap, especially in the North West zone.

The Managing Director of NDPHC, Engineer Ugbo, told Governor Bagudu that eight of the 10 power plants initiated by the NDPHC in its National Independent Power Projects (NIPP) portfolio have been completed, commissioned and successfully connected to the national grid contributing over 22,000,000kWHr of energy daily subject to availability of gas.

Ugbo said a total of 21 distribution intervention projects were being executed across the North-West zone 15 of which, he explained, have already been completed and were delivering power to the people of the zone. 

In the transmission value chain, he said two major projects were initiated and completed in Kano and Kaduna states, adding that the NDPHC was currently installing solar home systems to some communities in Kano that were not on national grid. 

“Other critical infrastructure that have either been completed or are at various levels of completion throughout the North West are construction of 11kv line network, supply and installation of 27 Nos 500kva, 11/0.415kv transformers as well as an upgrade of town distribution network all in Daura, Katsina State,” he said, adding that a number of other critical sector injector substations, network improvement, procurement and delivery of transformers and many other interventions projected to add value, improve supply and generally convey power to end users have either been completed and put to use or are nearing completion in various cities, towns and villages in Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Kaduna and Jigawa states.
