In a statement from the ministry, the Minister in-charge of the Ministry, Dr Stephen Oru stated that this is the first time a Federal Government project was completed and commissioned by any minister since the creation of the ministry in 2008.
He stated that the ministry commenced a housing scheme project in 2010 with the construction of the bungalows in all the nine states of the Niger Delta region as a palliative measure to address the challenge of housing need in the area caused by either communal clashes, youth restiveness, military invasion, damages arising from activities of oil and gas exploration and exploitation with the goal of improving the quality of the life of the people and increasing the housing stock.
Oru disclosed that the 40 units housing estate at Umuagwuo is part of a total of 250 units being built in the nine states of the region for the benefit of the people adding that the project was at various stages of completion in the states in the region.
