A Kano-based lawyer, Ali Jamilu, has advised Kano Hisbah Board to be observant of its core responsibilities rather than interfering in issues that have less value.
The lawyer, speaking on the issue of Shatu Garko, who recently emerged as Miss Nigeria 2021 said what Hisbah said based on the aspects they looked at, from the Islamic perspective, they are right.

“Hisbah are just mandated to advise on moral values of Kano people not to condemn or refuse or infringe on anybody’s right.
“Even if Miss Nigeria contest is going to take place in Kano, Hisbah has no right to stop it. No law has given them that opportunity. And no law has given them the right to stop anybody who wishes to contest in Kano or outside Kano. The Constitution has given every citizen right of expression and association so far it does not infringe on anybody’s right and did not go out of legal boundaries.
“The girl has every right to associate or express herself anywhere. She has the right to align with anybody or association so far it is legal.
“When we look at the religious perspective, that is between her and the God she serves.
“Hisbah has no right or base to invite Shatu’s parents and caution them. And even if the parents decide not to acknowledge the invitation they are right.
“Hisbah should be careful also by not going against what the law that establishes the board says. Their role is just to advise according to Islamic injunctions.”
