A memorial event for the late Daily Trust columnist and member of its editorial board, Malam Sanusi Abubakar, organised by his friends will hold in Abuja tomorrow.

The event is scheduled to hold at the Exhibition Pavilion and Event Centre (opposite Radio House, Area 10, Garki Abuja) by 11 am.

A ‘Rebel of all Seasons’ is a collection of selected writings of the deceased that covered business and economy, politics and governance, and people and society.

The event is “in honor of the humanist, academic, public intellectual and social commentator,” a statement by the organisers said.

The Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II will serve as the royal father of the day, while Chairman of Media Trust Limited Malam Kabiru Yusuf chairs the event.

Abubakar, who died in Abuja on December 31, 2016, at the age of 66, was the Tuesday columnist of the Daily Trust.

He attended Kano Provincial School, now Rumfa College from 1965 to 1969, School of Basic Studies, Zaria and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he obtained his first degree in 1974. He taught Economics at the School of Basic Studies Zaria for many years.

The late Abubakar was also a member of the Daily Trust Board of Economists. He wrote his last column in the paper titled: ‘Different Takes on Aisha and Kyari’ in the Daily Trust edition of Tuesday, October 25, 2016.

The deceased was a classmate to some prominent economists such as Professor Mike Kwanashie, Joshua Attah and former Economics Adviser to President Olusegun Obasanjo, Prof Ode Ojowu.

The deceased left behind a wife, five children, and four grandchildren.
