The National Obstetric Fistula Centre, is establishing a maternity complex to address re-occurrence of obstetric fistula in women previously repaired, the Head Clinical Service of the centre, Dr Sadiya Nasir has said.
She told Daily Trust that it is alarming to see women who were previously operated upon coming back with the same problem noting that the centre intends to check reoccurrence by enrolling women, especially those previously repaired, to undergo antenatal clinics within so that they can be effectively monitored and operated upon freely. She said, the major cause of fistula is prolong obstructed and unattended labour saying that if a woman failed to have timely access to a caesarian section she is bound to develop it. Nasir said, about 400 women are being repaired yearly since the taking over of the centre by federal government in 2013.
