The National Office of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) has released the result of its first January/February private examination with only 1,937 candidates, representing 17.13 percent of those who wrote the examination, obtaining credits in five subjects that include Mathematics and English Language.

At the briefing to announce the result of the examination yesterday in Lagos, Head of WAEC National Office in Nigeria Olu Adenipekun also expressed disappointment with the outcome of the first diet of the council‘s examination, saying it was quite “abysmal” when compared with a similar private examination conducted in 2017 whereby 26.01 percent candidates bagged credits in five subjects, including Mathematics and English.

According to Adenipekun, while 11,721 candidates registered for the examination, only 11, 307 actually wrote it. He said out of the figure who wrote the examination, it was 17.13 percent who passed, leaving 9,370 candidates representing 87 percent failing to obtain five credits that include English language and Mathematics.

The WAEC boss added that the results of 1,021 candidates, representing 9.03 percent of the total candidature for the examination were being withheld over various reported cases of examination malpractice which were being investigated.
