“We have for now put in place 24-hours power and water supply with increased security, hostel accommodation for male and female cadets, completion of inherited projects and construction of presidential jetty, fire bay and boat maintenance yard,” he said.
Okpo while addressing journalists on Tuesday in his office said his administration was not leaving any stone unturned to see ensure that the academy is put in a better position to produce high quality, internationally recognized maritime professionals.
‘’The installation of world class simulators (AMDSS, APAR, RADAR ) engine which makes our students go abroad for more training has put the academy in a class of internationally recognised maritime training institutions in the world.
He said the institution was working towards realization of the National Seafarers Development Programme where maritime trainees are taken abroad for further training in order to deepen their knowledge industry.
Okpo however decried the poor funding of the academy and called on relevant agencies and public spirited organizations to come to the aid of the institution in order to overcome its challenges.
He said if the institution enjoys appropriate funding from oil companies , maritime Surveyors and others his administration would ensure the institution regains its lost glory within the shortest possible time.
